'Tis the season to shop locally

Updated: Dec 7, 2020

Wrapped christmas presents

The year 2020 is coming to an end, and the holidays are right around the corner.

For those who are still looking for gifts for their loved ones, I recommend checking out local businesses.

Small local businesses are being hit hard by the effects of COVID-19. With fewer employees and smaller venues, the restrictions placed on these local stores are slowing customer traffic and sales. Not to mention the loss accumulated during the lockdown in the earlier phase of the pandemic.

Here are a couple of ways we can support local businesses here in Ottawa during the time of giving and sharing:

1) Explore local options for the gifts you have in mind

There are many local alternatives to choose from. Explore the neighborhood or look at online local directories to find a local store of your choice.

2) Buy a gift card

Maybe you want to help businesses that are not able to offer services as usual during this challenging time. A gift card is a perfect way to support these stores and delight your giftee.

3) Order a delicious meal from your neighborhood restaurant for the holiday

The holiday is incomplete without tasty food and drinks. Treat yourself this holiday and splurge on tasty meals prepared by the local chefs in your neighborhood!

With local stores struggling to stay afloat, it is important more than ever for us to unite as a community and stand behind these local businesses.
