Feeling stressed and overwhelmed because of the second lockdown in Ontario? Reduce some stress by ordering take-out food and not worrying about the hassle of cooking! Plus, you get to help awesome local businesses in Ottawa stay afloat at the same time. It’s a win-win!

Here’s a list I compiled of 5 personal favorite local restaurants in the South Keys area:

1. Ozzy’s Food Market

Located on 3867 Albion Road, this family-owned local store provides one of the best shawarmas in town. Their Lamb Shawarma is a must have – the taste of the tender lamb accentuated by the pickled veggies and garlic sauce; an addicting treat you will be coming back for more. Make sure to order it as a combo for their garlic potatoes are a treat! If you like spicy, ask for their spicy garlic sauce with it - it's a game-changer. They are also a bakery (with freshly baked meat pies) and a meat shop.

Open hours:

Mon – Sat: 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM

Sun: 10:00 AM to 08:00 PM

2. Ottawa Delivery Sushi

Owned by a friendly Korean family, this local sushi restaurant on 2430 Bank Street offers fresh sushi right to your doorstep! Satisfy your sushi cravings with their great-value sushi platters (such as the 24 pieces sushi combo for two, only at $30.95) and Bento boxes ($13.95 ~). Want something warm to go with the sushi? Order one of their Udons! It will warm you up from within this cold season. They deliver for free for orders above $20 in the Ottawa area (area restrictions may apply). Gather your housemates or family (in the same household, of course) for a sushi party!

Open hours:

Closed on Tuesdays

Mon, Wed – Sat: 12:00 PM to 08:00 PM

Sun: 03:00 PM to 08:00 PM

(Closed until January 5th 2021)

3. Kallisto

Who doesn’t want to treat themselves to tasty Greek food? Grab a Souvlaki platter or Gyro wrap at this Greek restaurant located on 2950 Bank Street. From the well-loved Greek classics to the lesser-known Greek delicacies (such as Pekilia), this local restaurant will fill your tummy with tasty delights. They even have their own spin of Greek and North American food – Kallisto Poutine (with Feta & Cheddar Cheese), Donair Poutines and Kallisto Burgers!

Open hours:

Closed on Mondays and Fridays

Tues, Wed, Sat, Sun: 12:00 PM to 08:00 PM

Thurs: 12:00PM to 04:00 PM

4. No Forks Given

This brand-new food truck just entered the South Keys food scene last Summer but it’s definitely here to stay! Located on 2560 Bank Street, the store offers the usual's (hamburgers and fries) but with a unique twist on them! A must-have is the No Forks Given burger – A 9oz beef patty, bacon and cheddar cheese sandwiched between two GARLIC BUNS. Still not convinced? May I suggest you their Ultimate Poutine in that case? A traditional poutine topped with deep-fried cheese curds, ranch, and green onions – a combo that will blow your taste-buds for sure! Unlike their name, they sure do Give A Fork about their menus.

Open hours:

Mon – Sun: 11:00AM to 09:00 PM

5. Chips and Dairy

Located on 2920 Bank street, this local Chips and Dairy store will provide a hearty and nostalgic meal! Remember the excitement as a kid when your parents brought you to a chip truck and drooling over the burgers, poutines, and milkshakes? Relive that memory with this local store! Not only do they have the Canadian classics, but they also have amazing Chinese take-outs! Feeling like Wonton soups? Or a General Tao Chicken combo complete with fried rice and egg rolls? Head on over to their website and order online!
